Protecting patient data is a critical responsibility across today's healthcare industry. This Release of Information (ROI) microcredential adds specialized skills in evaluating, authenticating, and delivering Protected Health Information (PHI) to an authorized requester (doctors, insurance companies, attorneys, law enforcement). You will be able to distinguish the difference between a designated record set (DRS), releasable records under HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act), and a legal health record (LHR). You will understand requirements for identity verification, legal validation, record retrieval and redaction (removal of restricted data). Quality ROI work ensures accuracy, timeliness and confidentiality when disclosing medical records. This microcredential is ideal for existing health care professionals including medical record specialists, health information technicians, patient account representatives, medical registrars in need of specialized skills to keep pace, advance, and earn national certification. This microcredential can also be value-add to those studying heath information management to obtain entry level employment. Successful completion of this microcredential readies all to continue their studies, gain employment and continue working toward national certification through the American Health Information Management Association or AHIMA.
Taught by Pip Townson, Angelico Duddin and Nil Spellissy.
