R08: A parent may be choosing for a child

E-026. Gallup for NSLA/ACA, July 26, 2024. Summer Experiences Survey findings.

Method: Web survey, May 1–15, 2024, of more than 6,800 U.S. K–12 parents in Gallup's probability-based panel. Parents with multiple children answered about one randomly selected child. The article describes experiences in summer 2023 and plans for 2024.

Learning: Reported barriers include cost, work/scheduling conflicts, transport, awareness and the child's interests. Adult decision-makers and child participants can have different responsibilities. [Sections “Half of Parents Wanted More Summer Activities” and study method paragraph.]

Limits: Broad summer activities, including camps and childcare, not SUNY enrollment or all youth learning. Parent reports do not replace young people's own perspectives. Legal/guardian requirements need project policy, not this survey.

Confidence: Strong for the reported national survey; indirect relevance to a youth scenario.

Coverage: Full article findings, definitions and method read; no underlying microdata or separate questionnaire inspected. Retrieved October 26, 2026.
