About this course

Pharmacy technicians play a crucial role in providing safe and effective patient care, with duties including but not limited to measuring medication amounts, managing inventory, receiving prescriptions, and establishing and maintaining patient records. The pharmacy industry is evolving, and as of April 2021, you must be registered in New York State. Many clinical duties have been extended to the pharmacy, which expands the role of both pharmacists and pharmacy technicians. The program also includes resume, interview preparation, and job placement. This course introduces pharmacy practice and the technician’s role in a variety of pharmacy settings. Topics include medical terminology and abbreviations, drug delivery systems, law and ethics, prescription and medication orders, and the health care system. The student will learn pharmacy and medical terminology and information about the top 200 selling prescription drugs (brand name, generic name, drug classification, and indication for use). The laws pertaining to the pharmacy profession, the technician’s duties and responsibilities, and laws governing the handling and dispensing of controlled substances. This program prepares the student to earn certification from NY Registered Pharmacy Technicians & National Healthcareer Association Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT).
