About this course
With a special focus on interpreting in educational settings, this class expands the knowledge of mapping as well as shape, placement and movement of the hands, facial expressions and body movements, all of which play important parts in conveying information. Students continue to broaden their vocabulary and improve their grammar all while engaging in a deeper study into the vibrancy of the Deaf community. Lessons in this course build on each other in a way that allows students to see immediate progress. American Sign Language is especially helpful for those in health-related or educational fields, and will assist in communicating with the deaf, as well as those with autism, speech delays or other communication impairments. You’ll learn from handouts, PowerPoints, group work, deaf individuals in the community and interactive activities.
